About this project
The project aims to support the structuring and operationalisation of the Pakará Fund of the indigenous peoples living in the Tumucumaque region, outmost northern parts of the state of Pará towards the border with Suriname, comprising approximately 4.2 million hectares of contiguous forests and home to some 4.000 indigenous persons. The aim is for the Pakará Fund to bring autonomy, sustainability, and predictability to the long-term implementation of territorial and environmental management plans (PGTAs) in the region, attracting a variety of donors from the international development cooperation sphere, as well as serve as a vessel for receiving national and subnational grants from future environmental compensation agreements or benefit-sharing schemes. The Management Committee of the Pakará Fund is predominantly composed of women, and women’s priorities within the framework of the Fund will be further enhanced through engagement with the two main women’s networks in the territory: AMITIKATXI and AMIWA.
