About this project

The project "The Rural Environmental Registry as a Digital Public Good - CAR DPG" aims to strengthen the implementation of Brazil’s Forest Code by enhancing the Rural Environmental Registry (Cadastro Ambiental Rural – CAR) as a reliable, transparent, and interoperable digital public good. The project will improve the quality, accessibility, and usability of CAR data to enable more effective environmental monitoring, land regularization, and deforestation control. It will develop and deploy open-source tools, technical standards, and interoperable services that support CAR validation, cross-referencing with land tenure and enforcement databases, integratng with different national and possibly subnational systems. By strengthening the foundational infrastructure of Brazil’s forest policy architecture, the project supports legal land use, and enhances public access to environmental information.
