About this project

The project will support and enable compliance with the Brazilian Forest Code amongst family farmers/smallholders involved in the cattle value chain in the state of Pará. The project will also engage with meatpackers operating in the state, to increase their support to ensuring full traceability in the cattle calue chain, in line with the state Cattle Integrity Program. The project will also support the involvement of indigenous peoples and local communities in discussions related to cattle. In addition to the state of Pará, engagement will also include the state of Tocantins, with the aim of informing and inspiring a future program for full traceability in the cattle value chain at national level in Brazil. The project contributes directly to climate mitigation, environmental protection, and the prevention of land degradation by promoting deforestation-free cattle production, strengthening traceability systems, and enabling compliance with environmental regulations in Pará and Tocantins. It reduces pressures on forests and vulnerable landscapes while engaging family farmers and Indigenous Peoples in improved environmental practices and socioenvironmental monitoring. In addition, the project produces new applied knowledge by developing and testing innovative methodologies for inclusive cattle traceability, transparency, and monitoring, which can be scaled and replicated across Brazil’s cattle supply chain.
