About this project

The project “Mobilizing and Harmonising Ambitious Action to Halt Deforestation” is implemented by Amigos da Terra – Amazônia Brasileira. Brazilian sub-grantees are Proforest Brazil, Imaflora, and LCA. This Brazil-focused project seeks to reduce and reverse deforestation driven by cattle and soy expansion on rural properties, with resulting progress towards Brazil’s climate adaptation and mitigation goals through reduced net land-use change emissions. The project will focus on building the National Platform, as well as expanding and implementing the Termo de Ajustamento de Conduta (TAC), to align key Brazilian efforts to reduce deforestation in the cattle sector. The project will also to some degree cover the work on the Protocolo Verde de Grãos do Pará (PVG) to support its expansion to other Brazilian states. The project’s main objectives are: Impact: Reduce and reverse deforestation driven by cattle and soy expansion on rural properties, with resulting progress towards Brazil’s climate adaptation and mitigation goals through reduced net land-use change emissions Outcomes: 1 The transition to DCF beef and leather supply chains in Brazil is accelerated and expanded, resulting in an increase in DCF policies adopted, improved and implemented by industry, retailers and financial institutions, and increased empowerment of female stakeholders 2 Brazilian federal and state agencies adopt and improve policies that reduce deforestation driven by agricultural commodity production
