About this project

Geography: Brazil, Legal Amazon that covers nine states Thematic area: Support ambitious policies, reduce forest crime, sustainable commodity production Problem: Illegal clearing and land grabbing, weak law enforcement, lack of transparency/incentives for sustainable production. Proposed solution: The core objective is to curb illegal clearing and land grabbing while fostering climate-smart, deforestation-free agriculture through improved governance, enforcement, transparency, and public engagement. Activities include high-resolution satellite monitoring of deforestation and forest regeneration, legal and financial investigations into environmental crimes, support for land regularization, public land allocation, and supply-chain transparency in the beef and timber sectors. Partners: Instituto Igarapé, Instituto Governança de Terras (IGT) and OMQQ. The expected effects for the target group of the Project (Outcomes) are: Outcome 1: Public authorities and financial institutions are more effectively enforcing laws and regulations against illegal deforestation and forest fires, resulting in increased investigations, sanctions, and financial restrictions. Outcome 2: Federal and state governments preserve, improve, and adopt land designation and cadastre policies that curb land grabbing and expand secure IP&LC tenure, supporting forest conservation and sustainable natural resource management.
