Fighting deforestation and environmental crime in the Colombian Amazon

About this project

The goal of the project is to strengthen the capacities of institutions with environmental competencies and functions in control of deforestation and environmental crimes by providing specialized technical support and spaces for dialogue to increase the effectiveness of State intervention in controlling the criminality that affects Amazonian territories in Colombia. The project will support key environmental (Ministry of Environment, National Natural Parks, National Agency for Environmental Permits, CONALDEF), agricultural (Ministry of Agriculture, National Land Agency), law enforcement (Police, General Attorney, judicial branch), and peace and human rights agencies (Office of the High Commissioner for Peace, Ombudsman Office). It is structured around four components: i. effective control, ii. prevention, citizen participation and protection of environmental leaders, iii. environmental justice, and iv. peace and environment
