About this project
Multistakeholder Platform to tackle the pressing issue of plastic and waste pollution in the Ozama River, Dominican Republic. The project is not just about waste removal; it aims to foster a culture of sustainable production and consumption. By promoting circular economy solutions, Ozama Rescue reintegrates plastic waste into the production chain, reducing environmental impact. Community engagement is a cornerstone of the initiative, with inclusive dialogues and training programs for local communities, particularly women leaders, on waste management and circularity. The project works specifically with women and youth led organizations and businesses to reduce marine littering in the Ozama river, most of which ends up in the Caribbean Sea. Marine pollution is linked to biodiversity loss by threatening Caribbean marine species.
