About this project

This is a project concept note developed by the Climate RESILIENCE partners, headed by NIBIO (Norwegian Instiute of Bioeconomy Research). The main focus will be on upscaling selected successful technologies from the Resilience project, addressing barriers for upscaling and showing the potential for upscaling in practice. The project focuses on - sustainable rice production systems (developing alternative rice establishment techniques) - environmentally friendly materials for mulching, packaging, irrigation etc. - use of alternatives to fossil fuels and electricity (solar power and bio fuel) - methods for reducing GHG emissions - seed systems and seed availability (gaps and challenges) The UPSCALE project is implemented in two of India’s most climate vulnerable states and aim to improve farmers income, climate resilience, and food and nutritional security, towards global climate adaptation and mitigation. By upscaling innovative evidence-based sustainable and climate resilient rice and relevant agricultural technologies this will strengthen smallholders to adapt to climate change and thereby enable transformative climate action. Women farmers play an important role in building climate resilient farming systems through appropriate seed selection, post-harvest practices, using digital tools for weather information so as to plan for irrigation, plant protection measures etc. The project will build capacity of women farmers to upscale advanced farming practices to boost productiv…
