Coordination of Norway India Marine Pollution Initiative - Phase II

About this project

This phase II project is a support to UNEP India for coordination of the Norway India Marine Pollution Initiative so as to improve the management of of marine plastic pollution and enhance India's global leadership on the issue. The phase II aims for continued engagement with the Indian Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change by providing science-policy related inputs and provide support for meaningful and informed engagement in global processes to achieve global goals. The project aims to support the national and state governments, central and state pollution control boards, private sector, scientific agencies and youth in the following areas to guide evidence based and inclusive action; 1. Facilitating sub-national policy implementation 2. Industry engagement for lifecycle solutions 3. Stakeholder engagement, coordination & knowledge management. The activities planned are; 1. Pilot solutions for implementation of national policies (including piloting community based solutions) in cities for management of plastics solutions. 2. Build capacities and raise awareness of relevant stakeholders considering gender equality and inclusion of youth and socially disadvantaged groups. 3. Establish a national platform for knowledge and experience sharing on managing plastic pollution. 4. Outreach, communication and partner coordination.
