INSIGHT: Institutional Strengthening for Indonesian Environment Fund Governance and Oversight

About this project

Implementing institution: UNDP Indonesia (main), Indonesian Environment Fund (IEF). Ministry of Finance, Republic of Indonesia (partner). INSIGHT provides technical assistance to strengthen the Indonesia Environment Fund (IEF) as a central actor in climate action and environmental financing. The project aims to further enhance IEF’s institutional capacity by strengthening governance structures, fiduciary oversight, safeguards, and operational systems in line with international standards. Technical assistance will strengthen legal frameworks, improve financial and information management systems, and equip IEF to effectively mobilize, manage and channel domestic and international climate and environmental financing The overall goal of the programme is to catalyze climate and environment finance in Indonesia by strengthening IEF as trusted and internationally recognized national financing institution with stringent governance, management, operational, and financial standards indicated by 5% increased of the IEF’s annual disbursement. The expected impact from the programme is enhanced climate resilience and environmental sustainability in Indonesia through strengthened, transparent, and accountable financing mechanisms that enable large-scale climate and environmental action, while helping mobilize part of the estimated USD 285 billion needed to achieve the Enhanced NDC emission-reduction targets and FOLU Net Sink of 140 MtCO2e, both by 2030.
