About this project
This project aims to support Indonesia in achieving its Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 target, a key milestone toward the country’s Enhanced NDC and long-term Net-Zero Emission (NZE) commitment by 2060 or earlier. Building on the extended climate partnership between Indonesia and Norway, and aligned with Indonesia’s RPJPN 2025–2045 vision, the project addresses urgent governance and justice gaps that threaten emission reduction in the forest sector, which accounts for 55% of national GHG emissions. A consortium of seven NGOs coordinated by the Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL), this project adopts a "Just FOLU Net Sink 2030" approach that combines scientific rigor with rights-based, inclusive governance—prioritizing Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities, and Women (IP&LC&W). It focuses on two strategic outcomes: 1) Strengthened FOLU Governance: Through independent stocktakes, regional-local climate strategies, integrated case handling systems, and community-based data initiatives to align policy with climate goals. 2) Strengthened Forest Law Enforcement: Through civil society watchdogs, forest crime reporting, joint monitoring with government, and legal capacity-building for officials.
