About this project
Norway supports efforts to strengthen marine monitoring and environmental management along Jordan's Gulf of Aqaba coastline. Implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR), the project will improve the collection, analysis, and use of marine environmental data through upgraded monitoring systems, scientific surveys, data management tools, and institutional capacity development. The project will support monitoring of oceanographic conditions, water quality, fisheries resources, benthic habitats, and marine pollution risks. It will also strengthen national capacities for evidence-based marine management through technical training, improved monitoring protocols, and the development of data-sharing and early warning systems. The initiative contributes to sustainable management of marine resources and supports Jordan's efforts to strengthen marine environmental governance in the Gulf of Aqaba.
