Oceans for Development Kenya 2025-2028

About this project

Oceans for Development Kenya works in the context of an MoU signed between Norwegian and Kenyan authorities in 2024, focusing on blue economy and fisheries. From Norway, the collaborating partners are: the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR), the Norwegian Veterinary Institute (NVI), the Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA), and the Norwegian Environment Agency (NEA). NIVA and Grid-Arendal are also involved in IMR's collaboration. The areas of cooperation in the MoU are: 1) Sustainable ocean planning. 2) Marine aquaculture management 3) Technical and scientific research and capacity building on fisheries management and blue economy. 4) Monitoring, Control and Surveillance to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. 5) Climate change mitigation and adaptation. 6) Collaboration under additional themes can be discussed and possibly included based on mutual interest. The program will conduct a gender analysis, develop gender-responsive policies as well as establishing an indicator-based monitoring and evaluation system for women’s rights and gender.
