About this project

Improved management of the marine resources in Sri Lanka, Phase III 2025-2028. The project objective is to contribute to sustainable management of Sri Lanka's marine resources with an overall aim to enhance food security for Sri Lanka's population through local fish resources: 1) Strengthened fisheries research and management capacity within the Sri Lankan government. 2) Improved fisheries landing statistics and assessment data.3) Strengthened capacity to plan, conduct and report on fisheries independent surveys. The project contributes to biodiversity and environmental protection by strengthening sustainable fisheries management, reducing ecosystem degradation, and supporting the conservation of critical coastal and marine habitats. It also enhances research and climate adaptation by building national capacity for marine data collection and analysis, improving monitoring of ocean and climate trends, and informing evidence-based policies that help coastal communities adapt to climate change. Technical assistance and institutional cooperation between Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway and Ministry of Fisheries (MoF) and National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA), Sri Lanka.
