About this project
Implementation of two courses in dam safety. Dams are a lifeline for millions of Nigerians, providing water, energy, and protection from floods. Yet, as these vital structures age and face new pressures from climate change, operational challenges, and transboundary water management, the need to strengthen dam safety has never been more urgent. Recent events, such as the September 2024 flood in northern Nigeria with the failure and overtopping of the Alau Dam in Borno State, as well as the 2022 floods impacting major facilities like Kainji, Shiroro, and Jebba Dams, with large numbers of fatalities, have brought these risks into sharp focus, underscoring the importance of skilled professionals who can safeguard communities and infrastructure.
