About this project

Institutional cooperation between Norwegian Environment Agency (NEA) and Ugandan authorities under the Energy for Development Program (EfD). The aim is to strengthen environmental governance of the renewable energy sector through capacity building and regulatory framework support to environmental authorities in Uganda. This will also contribute to climate risk adaptation and prevention. The Energy for Development program aims to strengthen the competence and capacity of national authorities in partner countries, to ensure effective management of the renewable energy sector, energy access for all, and accelerate climate mitigation and adaptation through low-emission energy solutions. Energy for Development provides customized technical cooperation between national authorities in partner countries and Norwegian public institutions. In particular, the program aims to help achieve; a) effective legal and regulatory frameworks for investment in renewable energy b) resilient, effective and sustainable energy systems, including transmission, and c) transition to low-emission renewable energy and emission reduction from existing energy production. Environmental management will be emphasized, including climate adaptation. The efforts at country level shall be based on national plans/priorities and including nationally determined contributions under the Paris Agreement (NDCs).
