About this project
The Norwegian Nurses Organisation (NNO/NSF) aims to create democratic, accountable, inclusive and sustainable organisations for nurses and midwives in four countries in Africa. Cooperation with the National Organisations of Nurses and Midwives in Malawi (NONM) goes back to 2006, and will be phased out between 2024 and 2026. The aim in this last phase is to build the sustainability of NONM as an effective watchdog and advocate for nurses and midwives, and solution provider for the government, contributing to a stronger and more resilient health system to deliver Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and good health for all in Malawi. The project includes a focus on nurses and midwives’ equal opportunity to leadership training and positions (gender equality) and the rights of nurses and midwives with disabilities. It also aims to train nurses and midwives in health-related climate adaptation, in the face of increased climate change and extreme weather related health emergencies. Finally, the project aims to train the nurses and midwives to provide the best possible assistance to patients with disabilities and with SRHR to female patients.
