About this project

Research cooperation between Norwegian and South African Researchers with an impact statement “Enhanced knowledge on addressing common challenges within areas under pressure for our respective countries. These are in particular the sustainability use and management of land, ocean and coastal areas for a well-functioning society”. NRF is mandated to play a significant role advancing research related to climate change and environmental issues through its funding programs and support for researchers working in these areas, as indicated in their 2020-2025 strategy. An important aspect of the programme will be the production of postgraduate student degrees with emphasis on gender equality and inclusivity of students from historically disadvantaged groups and institutions in South Africa. The two expected outcomes are: More competent and balanced research workforce to tackle common challenges within the above areas and increased public debate about the sustainable use and management of land, ocean and coastal areas.
