About this project
Norad is supporting Arbaflame AS (through its subsidiary Arbakit) with NOK 8.4 million for technical feasibility studies and test production of a facility that will produce biocarbon and synthetic gas from eucalyptus sourced from local forestry operations. The biocarbon and gas will be used in the local metallurgical industry. The customer FerroGlobe is already secured. Arbaflame is a provider of innovative biocarbon technology and will operate and partially own the pilot facility. Much of the technology has been tested before, primarily in Northern Europe, but given the significantly different context, further studies are likely needed. The total production corresponds to approximately 25 MW, which will be used to decarbonize emission-intensive industrial processes. In the long term, surplus gas could be fed into the power grid and contribute to improved local electricity supply (provided there is a local gas power plant as a customer), but this is not part of the pilot, so the project will not contribute to increased access.
