Pilot project Innovative Finance: Oikocredit and ACT CoS 2019/20-2026/27

About this project

This intervention is a Church of Sweden and Sida joint venture originated three years ago, where the Church of Sweden has taken a leading role in coordinating with We Effect and Oikocredit. Oikocredit is a church financing cooperative originating from an international church meeting in Uppsala in 1968. Since 1975, Oikocredit has focused on countering social injustices by investing in productive companies owned by socially disadvantaged groups.Project objective: "Strong Farmer Based Organizations accessing commercial loans for improved businesses and service delivery to their members". In the Log Frame Matrix there are two additional objectives that supports the overall objective: "Commercial banks/institutions increase lending to FBOs"; "Better policy framework/implementation of policy".Expected outcomes:- "Improved access to loans by 30 mature Farmer Based Organizations to invest in their value chains (within 5 years of Capacity Building start)"- "Improved policies that support commercialization of Farmer Based Organizations businesses are discussed"- "Financial Service Providers (FSPs) develop more responsive products to Farmer Based Organizations"- "Other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that show interest to participate in similar interventions".The effort is unique in its kind in that it is the first time that Sida's Guarantee instrument is used in the CSO Strategy and is combined with the framework organizations' capacity development support.
