About this project

The Global Water Security and Sanitation Partnership (GWSP) is a World Bank fund that supports countries in achieving SDG 6—a water-secure world for all. GWSP works in the water and sanitation sector, focusing on water resources management as well as sustainable water use in agriculture. GWSP provides evidence-based technical support to countries for system strengthening and the development of projects that include a poverty perspective. Through this, GWSP helps mobilize financing from private capital, World Bank lending activities, or domestic solutions. GWSP's work strengthens climate adaptation through, for example, watershed management and drought resilience, and emission reductions through nature-based solutions that integrate green and gray infrastructure, such as in wastewater management. Many efforts thus also contribute to reducing climate risk. GWSP's work in water resources management, water for agriculture, and wastewater management has a direct positive impact on environmental effects including for biodiversity. Through GWSP's support, the environmental perspective is strengthened in, for example, World Bank loans for related infrastructure. GWSP has a system to measure the number of initiatives that include gender equality in analysis, activities, and results frameworks.
