About this project

The overall goal of the programme is to support national efforts to accelerate the realization of children’s rights and progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for children. The programme is guided by the principles of children’s rights, equity, gender equality and resilience. The vision is for all boys and girls in Uganda, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, to realize their rights and have equal opportunity to survive and thrive. The programme is implemented through four thematic programmes: 1) Child survival and development, 2) Basic education and adolescent development, 3) Child protection and 4) Social policy.Initially UNICEF was allowed to use funding for Covid 19 as this arose as an urgent need. UNICEF was granted to reprogram funds within the Swedish support to their Country Program for COVID-19 response and mitigation, including an accelerated mass vaccination campaign in Nov-Dec 2021 (and organizing the international support of COVID-19 vaccines acquired through the COVAX facility).
