About this project

The objective of this project is to address the problem of potential radioactive contamination from the storage facility. Within the project, a monitoring programme is being implemented on the site where the radioactive waste is stored, and an on-ground storage facility is being designed in full compliance with international standards. The project implementation period is December 2019 – February 2022, the budget of the project is 7 309 250 SEK. With potential funding from EU/DG INTPA and Sida, a second phase of the Radioactive Waste Management Moldova project could support the implementation of the National Strategy and Action Plan on Radioactive Waste Management. The intended implementation period for the second phase is 2022-2025 with an approximative budget of 2 800 000 EUR, based on co-financing by Sida and the EU/ DG INTPA. Sida, from bilateral funds is to co-fund the project with approx. 8 000 000 SEK for construction of the storage facility according to the technical documentation developed within the first phase of the project.
