About this project
The programme "Strengthening Resilience of Disaster Affected Communities through Durable Solutions in Oromia and Somali Regions of Ethiopia" is under the Durable Solutions Framework, and will be implemented through the collaborative efforts of three UN agencies: International Organisation for Migration (IOM), United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), and the United Nations Human Settlement Program (UN Habitat). IOM will be the contracting partner, and the lead agency for the programme. The overarching objective is to contribute to durable solutions through improved conditions for sustainable socio-economic recovery and peaceful co-existence of disaster-affected communities with particular attention to most vulnerable groups while strengthening local government capacity in responding to the needs of internal displacement. Guided by a community-centered operational framework, the project aims to achieve proposed objectives framed around the key pillars of the DSI strategy, with interventions at operational, planning, policy, legislative, and institutional levels. The linkage between the three specialised UN agencies will, through coordinated integrated approaches aimed at generating legal, material, and physically protection for displacement affected communities, create synergies between operational activities for urban-rural linkages, community cohesion, livelihood, access to housing, land, and property (HLP), and access to basic services.
