About this project
This contribution, Biodiversity for Resilient Livelihoods Program (2024-2028), is being implemented by the Centre for Natural Resources Studies (CNRS) with a budget of SEK 41 million. It focuses on three ecologically critical areas. Site 1, located in the catchment area of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forest (SMF) in Shyamnagor Sub-district, Satkhira District, focused on restoring wetlands and mangrove ecosystems while promoting resilient livelihoods through sustainable agriculture and fisheries. Site 2, in Dakope and Koyra Sub-districts of Khulna District, shares similar ecological characteristics, with efforts centered on ecosystem restoration and climate resilience. Site 3, the Fatki River Basin in Magura and Narail Districts, aims to restore floodplain fisheries and enhance biodiversity through climate-smart agricultural practices. These project areas are vital for both biodiversity and the livelihoods of marginalized communities, with the Sundarbans playing a critical role in mitigating extreme weather events. The collaboration between Sweden and CNRS represents a significant step forward in enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.
