About this project

The proposed intervention will help the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine (hereafter MEPR) in the field of government chemicals management, chemicals safety and EU approximation. The proposal comes as a result of a pre-study financed by Sida and came about after a request from the MEPR. Three project objectives are proposed: - Ukraine is more prepared for EU accession in areas of chemicals. - Improved national legislation covering main EU regulations on chemicals (REACH, CLP) and international conventions. - Strengthened capacity of government institutions with mandates related to chemicals management. Focus is primarily on the EU legislation and regulations REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals) and CLP (Classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures) as these are central to management of chemicals in the European Union.
