About this project
The objective of the Sustainable Private Sector in Forestry Program implemented by UNDP and its consortium partners in Ethiopia in the period 2024 -2027 is to create or improve opportunities for sustainable livelihoods (e.g., income) and/or productive employment (jobs) for at least 70 000 rural and peri-urban poor (mainly women and youth) through systemic changes in market systems of a sustainably managed forestry sector. It also seeks to contribute to the following three sub-objectives: a) Enhance the capacity (technical and financial) of private sector actors, including small-scale producers, traders, cooperatives to engage in sustainable forest product marketing businesses in Ethiopia; b) Strengthen institutional support systems and regulatory frameworks to create an enabling environment for private sector engagement in pro-poor, forest products marketing, ensuring equitable access and fair-trade practices; and c) Facilitate the development of market linkages, value chains, and distribution networks for pro-poor, forest products; promoting inclusive economic opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for local communities in Ethiopia.
