About this project
Sida supports FAO’s project “Anticipatory and Early Action: Protecting Lives and Safeguarding Livelihoods for Vulnerable Communities in Somalia” for a ten-month period between March and December 2026. The decision is based on the acute and predicted deterioration of food security following the failure of the 2025 Deyr rains, compounded by conflict, displacement and climate-related shocks. With humanitarian funding reducing rapidly and since many rural households in IPC Phase 4 (emergency food security status) are no longer covered by the hyper-prioritised drought response, Sida considers it necessary to complement life-saving assistance with anticipatory and livelihood-protecting support that stabilises households before conditions reach higher levels of emergency.
