About this project

Application for design support – A strategic coordination role of Sweden’s support to Ukraine’s EU accession on Chapter 27 on Environment and Climate Change. This contribution provides grant funding to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Swedish EPA) to implement a design phase aimed at creating a long-term strategic coordination framework for Swedish actors supporting Ukraine’s EU accession. Specifically, the project targets Chapter 27 (Environment and Climate Change) under Cluster 4 of the EU acquis. Alignment with these environmental standards requires immense technical and institutional capacity, which this initiative directly addresses. The design phase consists of three core components: •Strategic support to Swedish agencies: Building the technical EU-accession and negotiation capacity of ten Swedish government bodies currently designing environmental cooperation projects with Ukraine. •Long-term coordination framework: Developing a formal project proposal for the Swedish EPA to permanently coordinate the broader Swedish environment portfolio, reducing the administrative burden on Ukrainian partners and enhancing alignment with Team Europe. •Regional training assessment: Evaluating the feasibility of expanding the "EU Environment Academy" training program to civil servants in Ukraine and potentially Moldova.
