About this project
The project activities with POWER focuses on providing affordable green, sustainable and non-for-profit electricity to communities, and decent working conditions. The situation in the energy industry needs to change to the better, as it is negatively affecting the consumers and workers in the industry. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas supply about 80 percent of the country’s energy needs. The Philippines has abundant indigenous energy sources, particularly geothermal and biomass but these are not fully utilised for lack of financial investments. The energy mix is dominated primarily by imported coal. Fear of insufficient electricity supply looms with the likelihood of limited coal imports, depletion of its natural gas supply, slow growth of renewable energy utilisation, and aging power facilities.
