About this project
The groundbreaking Vanga Seagrass Project (VSP) was initiated in January 2024 with funding from the UK Blue Planet Fund and support from ORRAA to develop the project under Plan Vivo’s biodiversity standard - (PV) Nature. The project is now fully operational as a Locally Managed Marine Area (LMMA), with community buy-in for fisheries-related interventions to conserve seagrass meadows. Governance frameworks have been established and have enhanced opportunities for local people to engage in conservation and leadership positions, with high participation from women and youth. Patrols to enforce these interventions are operational with previously reported match funding from Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy. In this new phase, the project focuses on advancing VSP and supporting the development of a high-integrity biodiversity credit project pipeline.
