About this project

The action intends to respond to some of the many challenges which the Lake Chad Basin has been grappling with ranging from institutional reforms, climate and environmental issues, population growth, human and economic development to conflicts and instability. The action is part of the Team Europe Initiative for the management of transboundary water in Africa (TEI-TWM), especially Specific Objective 3 on improving transboundary integrated water resource management and Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems-Nexus approaches for climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation as well as Specific Objective 2 on enabling cooperation and peer learning among transboundary basin bodies. Furthermore, the action will enhance transboundary water management to support development and regional integration within the Lake Chad Basin. The action is part of the European Commission's "Global Gateway" strategy, investing in adaptation and resilience activities in the face of climate change, promoting peace consolidation and good governance, and supporting knowledge and project development to enable large-scale cross-border investments for the common good and interest. The action will also provide a framework for coordinated action between EU Member States and EU institutions to work with their African partners at continental, regional and national levels. The implementation modalities will be through indirect management with EU Member state entrusted entities and grant to World Bank CIWA.
