Enhancing investments and circular economy solutions in the Motagua river basin

About this project

The action aims at fostering private investment in circular economy infrastructure and value chains in the Motagua River Basin by supporting business to business opportunities and attracting European investments. The action is also built on the results of the Motagua Forum (May 2025), which convened Team Europe actors and instruments, including the European and local private sector, to develop a common EU investment offer.The overall objective is to cut pollution and foster sustainable development by drawing public and private investment into circular-economy, waste and water solutions. Two specific objectives steer delivery. The first supports reforms and enforces a strong regulatory framework and builds institutional capacity. The second expands financial, technical and technological means so enterprises, government, municipalities and communities can launch bankable, climate-resilient projects. Core activities include drafting circular-economy laws, fiscal incentives and PPP models; convening inclusive governance platforms; running pre-feasibility and feasibility studies; designing green financial products and blended-finance pilots; promoting nature-based solutions; upgrading TVET curricula and digital learning; building EU¿Guatemalan business links; and rolling out basin-wide awareness campaigns.
