About this project

Contract related to: Reducing methane emissions through an integrated data approach, policy and planning - The objective of the action is to mobilise political will to mitigating methane emissions, by supporting the work of two UNEP-led initiatives, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and the newly established International Methane Emission Observatory (IMEO) ranging from science to economics and policy and providing decision makers with the confidence to take fast action. Indeed, while a wide variety of proven technologies and measures is available to reduce methane emissions in energy, agriculture and waste sectors, policy and regulation are essential, as there are limits to what can be achieved by companies¿ voluntary action. Health sector will also benefit from this Action because of the improved local and global air pollution resulting from this action. Methane is an important precursor to tropospheric ozone, which causes respiratory diseases and has been linked to over one million premature deaths per year.By supporting the international engagement on anthropogenic methane emissions, the action aims to transform policies and practices and highlight practical actions that can quickly reduce methane emissions in the main emitting sectors. In November 2021, the United States, the European Union, and partners formally launched the Global Methane Pledge, an initiative to reduce global methane emissions to keep the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius…
