About this project

Component 1 aims to contribute to the country¿s sustainable, inclusive and resilient future by investing in the expansion of sewerage infrastructure in the Dutch Quarter district, in line with Sint Maarten¿s National Development Plan, and building on previous EU engagement. Sint Maarten suffers from periodical destructive disruptions of living conditions, infrastructure, and economic activity due to its high vulnerability to natural disasters and adverse climate events.

These disruptions are typically countrywide. Building resilient public service infrastructure is hence a key economic and social factor for the sustainable development of the country. The total budget under the 11th EDF is EUR 7.0 million out of which EUR 5.6 million will be allocated towards the completion of sewerage infrastructure in section 2 of the Dutch Quarter (and, budget permitting, any additional necessary area of the district).

UNOPS is tasked with the management and implementation of the Component 1 actions and shall apply its own accounting, internal control and audit systems which have been positively assessed in the ex-ante pillar assessment.UNOPs shall apply its own procurement procedures, as assessed in the ex-ante pillar assessment and its own rules for the award of Grants, as assessed in the ex-ante pillar assessment.
