TEEB AGRIFOOD Plus - Economic valuation to promote agrobiodiversity mainstreaming in food systems

About this project

<p>The TEEBAgriFood initiative, launched by UNEP in 2014, aims to reform how food systems are evaluated by factoring in environmental and social impacts. Country-level applications have shown that improving agrobiodiversity benefits food security, climate, ecosystems, and livelihoods.</p><p><br></p><p>The main purpose of this action is to support the global transformation of agri-food systems towards sustainability by applying the TEEBAgriFood framework, which makes visible the hidden social, environmental, and economic costs and benefits of food production. Building on previous work in Brazil, India, and Indonesia, the initiative will expand to Ghana to assess agroecological approaches and promote their integration into national policies across Africa. Funded under the EU¿s `Prosperity¿ Multi-Annual Action Plan 2023¿2025, the action aims to create decent, green jobs¿particularly for women and youth¿while contributing to the EU¿s broader goals under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement, and the Global Gateway strategy. Ultimately, it seeks to foster food systems that are not only productive, but also equitable, climate-resilient, and nature-positive.</p>
