Submarine Telecommunications Cable System for El Salvador

About this project

<p>El Salvador is the only coastal country in continental America that lacks a submarine digital connectivity cable. This project aims to fill this critical infrastructure gap by deploying the country's first submarine cable, which will address two major objectives: enhancing national digital infrastructure and reducing international connectivity costs while increasing international bandwidth capacities.</p><p>Financial support from the European Union will complement a loan from CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America. This EU support will focus on two key areas: i) Institutional strengthening of El Salvador General Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET), equipping it with the capabilities needed for the effective investment programme management, administration and cybersecurity, and ii) Contribute to the essential dry plant infrastructure for the submarine cable system.</p><p>This will be complemented by the EU¿s BELLA programme, which will guarantee connectivity of El Salvador¿s research and education community to the rest of the Latin American and European network through this submarine cable and unlock El Salvador¿s growth potential with numerous new advancements in research and innovation.</p>
