Investment Grant for the Greater Colombo Wastewater Project

About this project

<p>The objectives of the Project are 1- to improve the efficiency of wastewater services in Colombo and 2- to reduce environmental and health risks associated with the discharge of untreated sewage into inland watercourses and open land.</p><p>The Project will result in improved climate resilience of the sewage network against higher infiltration rate of groundwater due to heavy precipitations and sea level rise and thereby contributing to climate adaptation.</p><p>Finally, the Project will also result in contributing to climate mitigation through reduced discharges of untreated sewage to canals as well as through the Project component related to the renewable energy production from solar panels to be installed at the roofs of the pumping stations in CMC service area for their energy sustainable operation.</p>
