Integrated Depollution Programme (Lake Bizerte)

About this project

Supporting the Tunisias efforts regarding the promotion of sustainable development of the Lake Bizerte region in particular , the overall objective of the Programme is to contribute to the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea Against Pollution and the Horizon 2020 Initiatives objectives in reducing land based pollution sources reaching the Mediterranean Sea as well as to increase the quality of the environment around the lake and thus contribute to improving peoples lives and increasing the potential for sustainable socio-economic development of the region. The specific objectives are:Eliminating or reducing the pollution load from the main sources of urban or industrial liquid and aerial emissions in the watershed of Lake Bizerte, thus improving health conditions and quality of life for its residents; Supporting the socio-economic potential of the region and employment creation further to the construction activities on the short term and investment operation activities on the long run which involving local populations and improved conditions for fishing, aquaculture and tourism activities;Increasing the commitment of local stakeholders at all levels regarding the promotion of sustainable development of the Lake Bizerte region through effective participation in the decision making process and the adoption of environmentally compatible practices in agriculture, industry, fisheries and aquaculture and in the disposal of urban wastewater and solid wa…
