About this project
This action will contribute to enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of local government for Palestinian women, men, youth and children across the West Bank and Gaza Strip, reinforcing effective and accountable governance and institutions in support of a Palestinian state that can assume the obligations foreseen in the two state solution.[1] The action contributes to reconfirming the Palestinian Authority¿s (PA) institutional continuity and reach across the West Bank and Gaza, and therefore its legitimacy across the territory as a whole. The EU aligns its support with key Member States and development partners including: Denmark, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland and the World Bank, who all collectively support the Municipal Development Programme IV, as the flagship Palestinian national programme to deliver the Local Governance Sector Strategy. This programme draws long-standing and wide-spread international support, incorporating Paris Principles of aid effectiveness, notably on PA-ownership, donor alignment and harmonisation, results orientation and mutual accountability.
