About this project

Contract related to: EU for Clean Air - The Action will support North Macedonia to align the national environment and climate change legislation with the EU acquis, and to ensure its implementation and enforcement in line with the national strategies and the international commitments of the country. The legal harmonisation will be accompanied by measures to strengthen the institutional framework and administrative capacities. Focus will be put on enhancing the compliance with the EU standards for soil pollution and solid waste management. The action will clean up a small lindane pond in a former industrial site at the Organic Chemical Industry (OHIS) premises and will prepare a large scale investment for establishing a regional waste management centre for Skopje region. The Action will also improve the air quality in Skopje, Kumanovo, Tetovo and Bitola through addressing the air pollution caused by heating and transport systems. EU funds will be channelled to the replacement of the heating systems in public buildings and to explore the possibility to extend and optimise the district heating in Skopje. The measure will be accompanied by increasing the fleet of less polluting buses and enlarging urban green belts.
