Special Measure - Support to immediate recovery from the 2024 floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina

About this project

Central and southern Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced severe floods and landslides due to heavy rainfall on 3 and 4 October 2024, resulting in significant destruction and fatalities. The direct damages are preliminary estimated at EUR 144 million, equivalent to 0.53 percent of the country¿s 2023 Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Given the estimated extent of the damage, the overall objective of the action is to assist Bosnia and Herzegovina in the recovery efforts in the aftermath of floods and landslides, in order to re-establish vital public and private infrastructure and delivery of services. The action will support immediate needs, with the main focus on supporting housing for affected families and livelihoods, rehabilitation/reconstruction of public community infrastructure and of affected micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs), especially in the agribusiness sector. The action comes as an immediate support while detailed needs assessments are ongoing. A Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) is expected by the end of December 2024 and a consolidation of the many parallel sectoral reports has yet to be done. Hence the concrete baselines and indicators for outputs will be further determined within the implementation phase of the action.
