About this project

The overall objective of this program is to promote the conservation of biodiversity and to achieve sustainable and equitable socioeconomic development. More specifically, the ecosystem of the Rusizi River basin in Burundi will be protected and improved. The area is of great importance to local biodiversity due to the presence of high-altitude vascular flora and fauna species with a high level of endemism. Dit programma heeft als algemene doelstelling het bevorderen van het behoud van de biodiversiteit en het bewerkstelligen van een duurzame en rechtvaardige sociaal-economische ontwikkeling. Meer specifiek zal het ecosysteem van het stroomgebied van de Rusizi-rivier in Burundi worden beschermd en verbeterd. Het gebied is van groot belang voor de plaatselijke biodiversiteit. Dit vanwege de op grotere hoogte voorkomende vasculaire flora- en faunasoorten met een hoog endemisch gehalte.
