About this project
The IFMC II project under the Thematic Programme Agriculture Growth and Employment got started only in October 2019 due to delayed signing and subsequent recruitment process. The Government of Bangladesh and Denmark thus jointly decided to adjust the project scope and halve the targets to maintain a focus on quality rather than quantity. However, IFMC II was met by a range of challenges including late start, allegations of corrupt practices, and loss of staff on top of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns; all of which resulted in overall low performance. It was therefore, based on consultations with MFA in Copenhagen (FRU and ELK) decided to reduce the expectations, influencing both inputs and outputs. Measuring the actual progress was further challenged by the lack of a baseline survey caused by delay of employment of staff and subsequent COVID-19 lockdown. One of two components got cancelled entirely, the number of Farmers Field Schools (FFSs) were reduced because of reduced implementation time, and the implementation modalities were adjusted to minimize risk of irregularities. The project activities was closed in April 2021. Thus there was no targets set beyond 2020. IFAD/RMTP under the same Thematic Programme started only in 2022. Thus there was no target set before 2022.
