About this project
Denmark’s Foreign and Security Policy Strategy (2022) reiterates that stabilisation measures serve Danish interests at home and abroad, especially “to prevent attacks against local populations, irregular migration flows, and extremism as well as to ensure the rights of women.” Accordingly, the partnership with UNODC will focus on addressing transboundary and evolving threats in the Horn of Africa with an emphasis on those that destabilize Somalia, including the Federal Government of Somalia’s (FGS) ability to combat illicit goods from which terrorist and transnational organized crime groups generate revenue. Among other activities, UNODC will assist the FGS in protecting its territorial borders and complying with United Nations sanctions. Importantly, UNODC will mainstream gender and aspects of the Women, Peace & Security Agenda into its various activities and actively identify/rectify gaps, with a view to empowering women to play a more prominent role in peace and security.
