About this project
Ecosystem regeneration is the entry-point for WFP’s resilience building approach. A watershed approach (i.e., holistic development of the area where water is captured, starting from upstream to downstream to protect productive lowlands) is applied to enhance natural resource management while accelerating the rehabilitation and stabilisation of degraded land and water harvesting for agro and sylvopastoral production (food and fodder). By investing in such nature-based solutions, the project promotes healthy food systems while assuring concrete climate adaptation benefits, generate additional income from farming and sustained livelihood, and contributing to carbon sequestration, improved soil productivity and more biodiverse local environment. The IRP, initially rolled out in rather stable settings, is now also being deployed in more fragile (buffer) areas that are indirectly affected by conflicts and forced displacement, as a mean to enhance shared access to natural resources, strengthen social cohesion, and promote a shift from humanitarian assistance to self-sufficiency. This along the triple nexus logic.
