About this project
This project is part of Denmark's commitment to investing in climate change adaptation initiatives for the benefit of vulnerable populations in Niger who are suffering from climatic hazards and the security crisis. Continuing support for the water sector is justified by the vital and social nature of the water sector (drinking water, hygiene and sanitation and pastoral hydraulics), not only to improve the living conditions of internally displaced populations in the current fragile security context in Niger, but also by the fact that meeting these needs will help to minimize conflicts around access to water and ensure social cohesion. It is this humanitarian objective that guided Denmark's decision to finance this project implemented by UNICEF Niger. The expected results of the project are as follows: • Outcome 1: People affected by humanitarian crises have access to integrated and vital WASH services • Outcome 2: people have improved access to multi-purpose, climate-resilient WASH services and livelihoods in vulnerable communities. • Outcome 3: Children in schools and patients and carers in health/nutrition centres have access to climate-sensitive WASH services • Outcome 4: The population of municipalities (in the Diffa and Tahoua regions) live in acceptable hygiene and sanitation conditions.
