About this project
The main objective of the project is to contribute to providing the Nigerien population with sustainably managed water supply and sanitation services in a context of climatic and security fragility taking into account the needs of IDPs. This entails implementing a multifaceted and integrated approach that combines infrastructure development, community education, and sustainable practices to not only address immediate needs but also address long-term resilience. By deploying innovative approaches, and community-centered strategies, the project will create lasting impacts, empowering vulnerable populations to withstand and recover from emergencies while fostering sustainable development and growth. The objective also aligns with UNICEF’s vision for WASH, which is the realization of the human rights to water and sanitation for all. The project will contribute to two key objectives of the UNICEF strategy for water, sanitation and hygiene 2016-2030: 1. By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all; 2. By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations
