About this project

The project aims to improve income, livelihoods and climate change resilience for poor, marginalized smallholder farmers by ensuring locally profitable, transparent and socially and environmentally sustainable value chains for vanilla and cocoa in an important and fragile ecosystem in Western Uganda. Through the project, the business’ current value proposition (“Indulgence for all chocolate lovers”) is supported, but increased engagement with younger and environmentally conscious customers is sought. A high level of innovation and resources are required, both with training, but especially within certification and geotagging, resulting in further development of certification standards and learnings for the coming EUDR requirements. Today, Fairtrade certified cocoa is produced in Ghana and Ivory Coast and shipped to large processing facilities in Europe on a mass-balance basis. The partly processed cocoa (liquor) is then shipped to the business’ chocolate producer in Germany for the chocolate production.
