About this project
The project aims to strengthen the resilience of maize and soya bean farmers to cope with climate shocks and to contribute to more resilient food systems. The ACRFE project will increase farmers' resilience by regenerative farming and increased access to bio-fertilizers to restore soil nutrition The value chain approach focuses on three levels: the farm cooperative level, manufacturing, and consumer distribution. The project engages 7 cooperatives (3 existing, and 4 new) and 10 small scale farmer groups. ETG is planning to source 5,000 MT of maize and soybeans from these. Post-harvest solutions are provided through PIC bags and solar-powered ventilation systems to reduce post-harvest losses by 20% and reduce aflatoxin levels. Also, ETG will experiment with the turning of agri-waste from the factory into biochar-based fertilizer for farmers to increase soil water retention. ETG aims to expand its local product range by testing and developing vitamin-enriched Corn Soya Blends (CSB). University of Copenhagen will support ETG in measuring the socio-economic impact of the interventions to help optimizing farmer support and sourcing models.
